چکیده

In 1988, Hata et al. [1] reported a case of ectopic production of salivary-type amylase by an IgA-type multiple myeloma. Subsequently, seven cases of amylaseproducing multiple myeloma have been reported [2-8]. According to Delannoy et al. [7], amylase-producing myeloma should be added to the list of amylaseproducing tumors. In 1991, we reported a neuraminidase sensitive, so-called sialyl, salivary-type amylase identified in the sera of patients with IgA-type myeloma [9]. The amylase showed an abnormal anodic migration in isoamylase electrophoretic analysis and we discussed the possibility that the amylase was being produced ectopically from myeloma cells [9]. Sialyl amylase associated with a tumor was first reported in the serum of the patient with pancreatic cancer by Sudo and Kanno [10] in 1975. Here, we describe the first case of sialyl salivary-type amylasemia associated with IgD-type multiple myeloma, which was found by retrospective observation of routine amylase zymogram.

Sialyl salivary-type amylase associated with ovarian cancer.

BACKGROUND There have been many reports describing hyperamylasemia, with a salivary-type amylase phenotype, in patients with malignant tumors and/or multiple myelomas. In contrast, we have discovered and characterized a sialyl salivary-type amylase from multiple myeloma and/or lung cancer cells. This paper reports the first association of sialyl salivary-type amylase with ovarian cancer, discov...

Role of Suppressed Immunoglobulins in Outcome of Patients With Multiple Myeloma

Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is typically presented with abundant monoclonal secretion of one type of immunoglobulin. The other classes of immunoglobulins, which are uninvolved and not secreted by malignant plasma cells, could be decreased. A number of previous studies reported the effect of suppression of uninvolved immunoglobulins on the outcome of patients with myeloma. However, its e...

Lymphocyte-specific TRAF3 transgenic mice have enhanced humoral responses and develop plasmacytosis, autoimmunity, inflammation, and cancer.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 3 (TRAF3) regulates both innate and adaptive immunity by modulating signaling by Toll-like receptors (TLR) and TNF receptors. TRAF3 was recently identified as a tumor suppressor in human multiple myeloma, suggesting a prominent role in plasma cell homeostasis. We have generated transgenic mice expressing human TRAF3 in lymphocytes. These mi...

Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae is not a universal immunoglobulin D-binding protein.

Haemophilus influenzae type b and nontypeable H. influenzae have been reported to bind human immunoglobulin D (IgD). IgD myeloma sera from five patients were tested for the ability of IgD to bind to H. influenzae. Serotype b strains bound human IgD in four of the five sera tested. IgD in the fifth serum bound strongly to type b strain MinnA but poorly to other type b strains. Additionally, IgD ...
